Can Women Consume Alcohol During Pregnancy?

It’s a known fact that, for pregnant women, drinking a glass of wine is strictly out of bounds, right? Well, possibly not.

A new research by Murdoch Children’s Research Institute looks into whether or not low to moderate levels of alcohol can be consumed while pregnant, without harming the child.

The reason women are told not to drink alcohol while they are pregnant is because the risks affecting the child are unknown, not because they have been proved to be harmful.

The study is still in its early stages, but will look at factors such as how far into the pregnancy a woman is, her body size and diet when determining if small amounts of alcohol can be consumed.
