Penfolds’ $1000 red released in China

South Australia’s own Penfolds will today become the first of the state’s wine producers to go overseas for the first release of a white wine.

The 2008 Special Bin 620 will hit Shanghai today and will sell for a whopping $1000 a bottle.

Penfolds’ rare house style red wine is Australia’s most expensive table wine and is made from Coonawarra cabernet and shiraz. There are less than 1000 cases available around the world.

The release is further proof that China is becoming a popular market for Australian wine companies to export their products.
