Spain has dominated the world’s largest competition for organic wine, winning 50 medals and seriously impressing judges.
The Mundus Vini BioFach International Organic Wine Award, held in Germany, had approximately 600 wines for judges to sample over the two-day blind tasting session.
The awards were handed out to kickstart BioFach, a world organic trade fair that attracts almost 50 000 guests annually.
Germany came close to toppling the Spaniards, winning 47 medals, while France and Italy fought out a close third place spot, earning 39 and 38 medals respectively.
South Australia (and especially Kalleske) managed an impressive performance, winning ‘Special Gold’ for two Shiraz labels.
The top awarded wines were the following:
2009 Kalleske Eduard Old Vine Shiraz Barossa Valley Kalleske Wines Australia.
2009 Johann Georg Old Vine, Single Vineyard Shiraz South Australia Kalleske Wines Australia.
